Texas Alliance of Black School Educators Honors Outstanding Districts and Schools at 40th Annual State Conference

(Galveston, TX) – The Texas Alliance of Black School Educators (TABSE) proudly announced the recipients of the prestigious Dr. Thomas Randle Demonstration Districts and Dr. Jay Cummings Demonstration Schools awards during its 40th Annual State Conference in Galveston, Texas. These districts and schools represent high-performing, majority-minority institutions that have successfully implemented instructional strategies and programs to close achievement gaps for African American and Hispanic students.

2025 Dr. Thomas Randle Demonstration Districts

  • Longview ISD – Dr. Marla Sheppard, Superintendent
  • Sheldon ISD – Dr. Demetrius McCall, Superintendent

2025 Dr. Jay Cummings Demonstration Schools

  • Hilliard Elementary School – Erika Kimble, Principal (Houston ISD)
  • Sheldon Elementary School – Jana Rolling, Principal (Sheldon ISD)
  • Wainwright Elementary School – Michelle Lewis, Principal (Houston ISD)
  • South Oak Cliff High School – Dr. Willie Fred Johnson, Jr., Principal (Dallas ISD)

“These schools and districts are setting the standard for academic excellence and innovation,” said Dr. Darwin Spiller, TABSE President. “Their dedication to student success and commitment to excellence in education are truly inspiring. By sharing their knowledge and best practices, they help pave the way for continued progress across Texas schools.”

Districts and campuses were selected through a rigorous application process, which evaluated student performance, school culture and climate, and the effectiveness of educational systems and procedures. A committee of educational leaders reviewed the applications, with the official announcement made at the milestone 40th annual TABSE State Conference.
