Dr. Angi Williams Named Region 4 Superintendent of the Year

AngiWilliams2013Houston, Texas – Dr. Angi Williams, superintendent of Galena Park Independent School District, has been selected as the 2016 Region 4 Superintendent of the Year. The Region IV Service Center (Region 4) serves a seven-county area composed of 50 public school districts and 41 open-enrollment charter schools, representing more than 1.1 million students, 91,000 educators, and 1,500 campuses.

Since being named as the Interim Superintendent of Schools in June 2011, Dr. Williams has held very high expectations for Galena Park ISD and created a culture of excellence. She is well-known for her “Excellence in all, for all, by all” leadership mentality. This expectation extends to all areas, including academics, athletics, Fine Arts, and especially her platform of creating opportunities for students. Under her leadership, Galena Park ISD was named as a Large District Finalist in the 2016 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards.

“Dr. Angi Williams, a passionate leader dedicated to ‘Leading, Learning, Serving’, has impacted the lives of thousands of students as a counselor, principal and superintendent in Galena Park ISD,” Region 4 ESC Executive Director Dr. Pam Wells said. “Dr. Williams will be a tremendous representative of the superintendents in Region 4. We congratulate Dr. Angi Williams for this well-deserved award and wish her well as she joins the prestigious educators who have been nominated for state Superintendent of the Year.”

The Regional Superintendent of the Year award is sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), and honors public school district superintendents. This award program has recognized exemplary superintendents for excellence and achievement in educational leadership since 1984. Candidates are chosen for their strong leadership skills, dedication to improving educational quality, ability to build effective employee relations, student performance, and commitment to public involvement in education.

Dr. Williams now advances as the Region 4 nominee for the 2016 Texas Superintendent of the Year Award presented by the Texas Association of School Administrators/Texas Association of School Boards. The winner of the state award will be announced at the 2016 TASA/TASB Convention this fall.
