Dr. Gary Bates was named Superintendent of Goodrich ISD in May 2014. Besides this being his first superintendent position, Dr. Bates is also making history by being the first African-American to assume a superintendent position in Polk County.
Dr. Bates has a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Texas A&M Corpus Christi and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Prairie View A&M. He has served as a teacher, coach, athletic coordinator, assistant principal, and both middle and high school principal prior to his role as superintendent for Goodrich ISD.
Making a difference and impacting the lives of students is a passion for the Bates family as his wife of 23 years is also in the field of education. They are the blessed parents of three children of their own.
